WHO

IS EXPEDITION LEEWAY 25?

NICOLA NUSSBAUMER

Ever since I was a little boy I have been fascinated by nature and

wanted to explore what is far beyond my doorstep. A growing

love for building things resulted not only in a bachelor's degree in

Architecture but also in ominous projects with primitive rafts on

inscrutable waters.

NOE SCHNYDER

My name is Noe Schnyder and, together with Nicola, I’ll be leading the Leeway-25 expedition. Owed to my studies, I am deeply fascinated by everything that can be summarized under the sticky word maritime history. But historical research is not just done at a desk and with books. If you really want to understand what it might have been like back then, you have to do the same as the people of that time. In this sense, we are all following in the footsteps of Thor Heyerdahl.

LEON BEHRENS

I'm a nature enthusiast who finds peace and inspiration in the great outdoors, whether it's hiking through forests or relaxing by a serene lake. The fresh, cool wind in my hair as I explore the North's untouched beauty is one of my favorite sensations.
I love the excitement and challenge of new adventures, from the adrenaline to the satisfaction of finishing them and I am happy to be a part of the Leeway-25 team.

BRAGE SOGN HEGGLAND

I’m a carpenter by occupation and a passionate world explorer. I’m currently traveling the world in my sailboat, which I will continue doing until project start. Before my current sailing adventure, I lived and worked in Greenland as a carpenter. Living and working in the harsh Arctic conditions of Greenland challenged me a lot as a craftsman and gave me invaluable skills in adapting to extreme environments, problem-solving, and fine-tuning my craftsmanship to meet demands.

LUCIEN HUBERT

As a passionate photographer and outdoor enthusiast, I'm always seeking new challenges and adventures from the mountain to the sea. My interest in the Arctic and human-environment relations drives my work. As part of my master’s in Visual Anthropology, I’ll be conducting a research and filming a documentary onboard. I’m excited to share my creative approach and adaptability to contribute to this exploration’s journey.

MARTIN BENTZEN

I was born in Tromsø, Norway and nature has always been a big part of my life, I’m passionate about climbing, skiing, and long expeditions. I’ve spent two years sailing around the world, in both higher and lower latitudes constantly seeking new adventures on both land and sea. Currently, I’m in Catalonia, continuing my climbing and exploration. My experiences with long ski trips and challenging sailing journeys have taught me how to adapt to extreme conditions. I’m excited to be part of this project, and look forward to the journey ahead!
