Learn how we build our pre-Columbian raft

Week 5, 07.04. - 12.04.

It was a stressful but incredibly successful week! We finally got the wood for the guaras - the boards that allow us to steer the raft and also act like a keel. Transporting all the boards to the building site took us 16 hours.

We also made great progress on the raft itself: we built the base for the hut and mounted the frames on top of it. In addition, we began designing and constructing the cockpit, started cutting insulation for the hut, and built the mast shoe - a fixture that keeps the mast securely in place.

Week 4, 03.04. - 05.04.

The good weather stayed with us in the second half of the week, allowing us to continue coating the logs with linseed oil. We also completed the deck parts and the frames for the hut, which means we’ll be ready to build the hut next week.

Week 4, 31.03. - 02.04.

We were lucky in in the first half of the 4th construction week and had sunny and warm weather. We spent the time with various tasks such as washing clothes, oiling the logs, splicing rope and shapeing the front of the logs.
